Traffic News: Road Projects to Begin October 28

Clermont residents and area commuters: Two road rebuilding projects in the Town of Clermont that will affect local traffic patterns are set to begin Monday, October 28, and should be completed by the end of the week, weather permitting.

Signs notifying residents of the road work will be posted Thursday (Oct. 24) or Friday (Oct. 25) near the two project sites: Tansel Road from U.S. 136 north to the railroad tracks, and 30th Street from Tansel to Bridgeport Road. All town residents will be able to get to their homes during the projects, though there may be some delays.

There will be road closures at both locations. The first will be at Tansel Road, from U.S. 136 north to the railroad tracks (there will be no access to Wilshire Glen Drive from Tansel). Only residents who live on Tansel along this stretch will have access so they can reach their homes, though delays should be expected. Motorists who would usually take this stretch of Tansel are advised to take Raceway Road instead, as thru traffic will not be allowed.

The other road closure will be 30th Street from Tansel to Bridgeport Road. Thru traffic will not be allowed; however, residents who live on 30th Street will be able to access their homes. Delays should be expected.

Crews will work on both projects simultaneously throughout the week, starting around dawn each day and ending around dusk. The crew on 30th Street will avoid high-traffic times for Robey Elementary School and so will not be working between 8 and 8:30 a.m. The crew will pause between 2:45 and 3:30 p.m. for school bus traffic. Motorists should avoid 30th Street during the project and use other roads.

These projects are to rebuild the sections of roadway that had been determined to be failing by the town's engineering contractor, and much of the funding is coming from the State of Indiana thanks to a Community Crossings grant secured by the town last year.

Questions should be addressed to Clermont Street Commissioner Lora Miller at [email protected].
